KEL-F ® is a fluorocarbon-based polymer that is unique in the number of advantages it offers. This PolyChloroFluoroEthylene thermoplastic material can tolerate temperature extremes, is nonflammable, has good chemical resistance and near zero moisture absorption and has strong physical, mechanical and electrical properties.

Answer to Kel-F is an addition polymer with the following partial structure. What is the monomer used to prepare it? .

Kel-F type Neoflon M 400H PCTFE, polychlorotrifluorethyene, is the homopolymer of chlorotrifluorethylene. Kel-F, or PCTFE, offers the unique combination of physical and mechanical properties, nonflammability, high optical transparency, chemical resistance, near zero moisture, and excellent electrical properties that cannot be found in other thermoplastic fluoropolymers.

The Kel – F ® 81 grade of PCTFE was commercialized by the M.W. Kellogg Company in the early 1950’s, and subsequently acquired by the 3M Company in 1957. The 3M company discontinued production of Kel – F ® in 1995 and sold the rights to Daikin® Industries, Ltd, who produces the resin today under the trade name Neoflon® M-400H.

This PCTFE resin has the same chemical structure and properties as the original Kel – F ® brand material. GENERAL PROPERTIES PCTFE offers the unique combination of physical and mechanical properties, nonflammability, high optical transparency, chemical resistance, near zero moisture absorption, and excellent electrical properties.

Kel F -800 fluorocarbon polymer has been selected as the binder for the TATB explosive in the B77 bomb. Kel F -800 is a 3M copolymer derived from the monomers chlorotrifluorethylene (CTFE) and vinylidine fluoride (VF/sub 2/). To understand and define Kel F -800 in relation to its intended use, as well as to generate guidelines for controlling the …
